Chiapa de Corzo, Mound 17
Comparative Analysis of a Salvage Excavation, Number 80
By
In 1969, the cooperative efforts of the Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia and NWAF resulted in the salvage project of Mound 17, a large Middle Preclassic to Protoclassic mound in the heart of Chiapa de Corzo. Findings on the architectural history, caches, and burials, in particular Tomb 17-6, offer insight on the ruling elite of the Francesa phase. Also included are a relevant paper by Andrew J. McDonald on the ‘Middle Preclassic Ceremonial Centers in Southern Chiapas’, as well as a homage and list of publications for Thomas A. Lee Whiting, Jr.
