Book Proposals for the Inclusive Anthropologies Series
Editors: Pei-Lin Yu and Nicole Herzog
This series is intended to serve as a platform to present and celebrate knowledge in anthropology from a mosaic of voices. Projects in archaeology, ethnology, ethnobiology, biological anthropology, paleoecology, cultural anthropology, folklore, and oral history and story as they pertain to the human experience are especially welcome. We seek voices that provide for broader insight in our anthropological understanding of communities and societies both past and present. We are specifically interested in manuscripts that are written by and/or focus on histories that have, in the past, not been centered in anthropological research. Topics might include, but are not limited to, Indigenous communities and experiences, ethnic communities and experiences, women and children, the LGBTQI+ communities, and captive and migrant groups. Works of global scope across all time periods are welcome.
A book proposal introduces you and your work to the series editors and the press. Please complete the below form in creating your book proposal and send it to the Inclusive Anthropologies series editors:
1. General Overview
- What is the book about?
- Why are you writing it, and why are you qualified to write it?
- What makes your book well suited to the series and the University of Utah Press’s list?
- Length of your manuscript (word count)
- Number of figures and/or tables
2. Contribution to the Literature
- What are some similar or competing books in the field?
- What are the unique contributions your proposed book makes, distinct from similar extant volumes? In short, what is your book’s identity?
- Who do you envision as your book’s audiences? (e.g., scholarly, general reader, course adoption)
- How do you propose to reach these audiences?
3. Plan/Timeline
- If your manuscript is not complete, what is your estimated timeline for completion?
4. Required Attachments
- For edited volumes, a list of expected contributing authors
- A curriculum vitae or resumé for all book authors or volume editors
- An annotated Table of Contents, containing working chapter titles, chapter authors, and a brief (<150 words) synopsis of each chapter
- The introduction or preface, if available
- A sample body chapter
